VEGAN Vietnamese Coffee

Vegan Vietnamese Coffee

Earth’s General Store and Cafe (downtown) is excited to announce the launch of our latest beverage – VEGAN Vietnamese Coffee (Cafe Sua Da).

Last year I spent several weeks trying to develop the non-dairy sweetened condensed component of this popular beverage. Not only did it have to be vegan/plant-based but it had to be organic and fair trade where possible. I succeeded but found the whole process was too finicky for our operation (using the small appliance that people use to make the Vietnamese coffee). So I put that on hold thinking that sometime someone is going to address this need.

This year I heard that Edward’s & Son had released a product in the USA. I wrote to them and then petitioned my suppliers to add it to their listing for Canada. It worked and last week we saw the first vegan gluten-free sweetened condensed coconut milk being distributed in Canada.

Which was great timing for us since we also had developed our cold brew espresso. This is a coffee concentrate (espresso strength) without the use of heat extraction therefore a much reduced acid content. This was the last ingredient to make the Vietnamese coffee I needed to make this delicious drink.

We have now assembled this fantastic concoction. Organic Sweetened Condensed Coconut Milk, Certified Fair Trade and Organic Cold Brew Coffee, Beans Roasted by us in Edmonton, and nitrogen dispensed (more on that in another blog).

We introduced this to the Edmonton Coffee Community on Thursday, July 14th, 2016 to many happy people. This is a special drink and we will be offering it at the cafe on special occasions only.
