For over 25 years we have offered a solid shampoo and conditioner bars from Soap Works. We have recently added solid shampoo and conditioner bars from Unwrapped Life from Calgary.

Why Solid Shampoo and Conditioner Bars?

Have you ever gone camping and had to lug water from the stream, lake, or tap back to your campsite? It’s quite heavy, isn’t it? One litre of water weighs 1 kilogram (at 10C). A bucket is usually 10 litres and therefore weighs 10 kilograms (22 pounds).

When we move weight/matter it costs energy. The further we move it the greater the energy demand.

Shampoos are mostly made of water. We pump water from its sources, treat it, mix it with other ingredients, package it into a plastic bottle, package those bottles into boxes, and then ship it to stores for people to buy. Water is one thing that just about all of us have in abundance in our homes. Does it make sense to waste resources shipping and packaging water?

Solid Shampoos does not involve the shipping of water, therefore, has a smaller energy and water footprint.

Solid Shampoo and Conditioner Bars Help to Reduce our Plastic Footprint

We have so many products packaged in plastic and most of us are becoming more aware of the issue of plastic pollution – especially when it comes to its effect on the ocean and marine animals.

Since these bars do not have water in them they do not need to be packaged in plastic bottles and therefore help to reduce our plastic footprint. We now have an option – to choose a product that is effective and does not have the usual plastic packaging. #OneLessBottle. #PlasticFootprint

I only brought in the line of products that have natural ingredients (I was checking out Lush’s solid bars and was not pleased to see the “Safe Synthetics”, synthetic colourants and other ingredients.

We also carry several soap bars that are unwrapped, solid and have the same positive attributes as the solid shampoo and conditioners bars offer the planet.

We also carry liquid soaps and if you use liquid Castile soaps and I highly recommend investing in a foamer bottle and refilling with our liquid Castile soap and mix with water from your tap. You will save money and get a better product. Keep your eye out for a used foamer and reduce your plastic footprint.
