Michael Kalmanovitch’s Retirement, Ownership Update

Exciting News! 31 years after beginning Earth’s General Store in 1991, Michael Kalmanovitch has officially retired. After so many years of hard-work and sacrifice, it gives us great joy to wish him a wonderful retirement, as he heads out on an epic bike adventure. For so many years, Michael’s work and passion has been a source of inspiration to so many. Thank you, Michael!

EGS is now owned by a new local non-profit, the Ethical Community Organizations of Edmonton (ECOE, www.ecoedmonton.ca). After so many years being run by its founder, we look forward finding new ways of collaborating and sharing decision with EGS staff. We are grateful for your ongoing support as we transition into this new phase in the life of this one of a kind community grocery store. EGS is a special place, offering healthy, ethically grown/sourced organic products, with a focus on refilling containers, rather than creating waste. Like many local businesses, EGS is part of a shared vision of a world where people can walk or bike to acquire basic necessities, reducing the need to burn fossil fuels. Together, we make good change in the world

Farewell message from Michael:

“A business is more than one or two people, it is a team. A team effort that consists of the hundreds of people that have worked with us to provide the services and goods we offer AND the thousands of customers that have spiritually, emotionally, and financially supported and crafted us over the nearly 31 years.

I thank EVERY ONE of you for the honour of being of service to you and for working with me to reach this point.

And farewell.”

In the upcoming days, we hope you will take part in a forthcoming customer survey, and let us know your thoughts and insights. If you would like to reach out before then, please email Netta Johnson, netta@ecoedmonton.ca. We would also LOVE to see you at the store in the coming days and weeks. Blessings & Gratitude, EGS/ECOE
