Earth’s General Store is pleased to announce Edmonton’s First Annual Tofurky Drive!
Each year I listen to CBC Edmonton doing their annual CBC Turkey Drive in support of the Edmonton Food Bank. This year Edmonton CBC is hosting their 18th Annual CBC Turkey Drive to raise money and accepting donated turkeys at their facility downtown. This is a great service that CBC and the CBC staff do for the Edmonton Food Bank and the community at large.
CBC’s Turkey Drive starts on Decmber 15th and ends on December 22nd, 2016.
For many years, I have meant to get involved in this drive and to offer a plant-based option for people that use the food bank but have chosen a plant-based or vegetarian lifestyle. Not everyone that uses the food bank eats turkey because of lifestyle choices or religious beliefs. This year there will be some options.
I am pleased to say that this year will be the first of many, where Earth’s General Store will work with CBC Edmonton and the Edmonton Food Bank to offer a plant-based option for people. The Tofurky Drive will kick off on Tuesday, December 13th, 2016 and will continue until Monday, December 19th, 2016 – the same time period as CBC Edmonton’s Turkey Drive.
We are offering Tofurky Roasts at a discounted price of $10 for those people that wish to purchase a Tofurky for the Edmonton Food Bank. We have made 20 Tofurkys available for this campaign this year.
If you would like to purchase one of these Tofurkys all you have to do is come into one of our stores and purchase a coupon for 10$. This coupon will allocate one Tofurky for the Edmonton Food Bank. We will store the Tofurkys on your behalf and then deliver them all together.
We will also collect donations for the Edmonton Food Bank and the donations will be directed towards plant-based provisions for the holiday hampers.
So come and let’s make Edmonton’s First Annual Tofurky Drive one for the history books and the start of a long-lived annual event.
Earth’s General Store owner and founder, Michael Kalmanovitch, will be on CBC’s Radio Active on Thursday, December 15th, 2016 at 5:20pm if you would like to tune in or tweet during that time.
It is our intention to have many more available next year for this event and to have other plant-based options available for donation such as the Gardein Holiday Roast or Field Roast’s Celebration Roast. This is a work in progress.
Note – Tofurkys are frozen.
